Mexico-made
A buñuelo (alternatively called bimuelo, birmuelo, bermuelo, burmuelo, or bonuelo; is a fried dough ball.
In Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Uruguay, Spain, Venezuela, Greece, Guam, Turkey and Morocco, it is a tradition at Christmas, Ramadan, and among Sephardic Jews at Hanukkah. Fillings and toppings are usually included. Mexican cuisine often serves it with a syrup made from piloncillo. Moriscos in Spain are the first known to have consumed buuffuelos. Simple wheat-based yeast dough, often flavored with anise, is thinly rolled, cut or shaped into individual pieces, then fried and topped with a sweet glaze. The contents of buuelos can range from sweet to savory. Balls or discs can be round or disc-shaped. In Latin America, buñuelos are considered good luck symbols
