Compared to other metals, cobalts last longer
Submitted to the crème de la crème for beta testing
For the development of Cobalt strings, Ernie Ball recruited members of its star-studded artist roster, including Steve Morse, John Petrucci, Randy Jackson, Tony Levin, and Slash. Petrucci described the Cobalts as "amazing," with "increased power, incredible clarity, and incredible sonic balance." He also noted they were "softer" under your fretting fingers (he called them "buttery"). Before being plugged in, Slash says that the Cobalts feel "different from any normal string." He describes this sensation as "bouncy and pliable," and "a lot of fun to bend." When amplified, Slash commented that the Cobalts were just as bright as titanium strings, but more "guttural," with more "growl to them."
With the Cobalt formula, you get a higher output and a better sound
Ernie Ball practically invented "rock" guitar strings half a century ago. With Cobalt, they've reinvented them. After exhaustive testing of over 350 alloy combinations, the company came up with an optimal formula that - as compared to conventional strings - gives you higher output, beefier lows with greater definition, more midrange focus, shimmering harmonics, and longer sustain than conventional strings. Turning up the treble on your amp will produce a brighter sound without creating harshness.
There is a longer life expectancy for cobalts
In comparison to other guitar strings, Ernie Ball Cobalt strings last longer, retaining their brightness for longer periods of time. Morse says the Cobalts "still sound bright even after weeks of daily use - sweaty hands and all." They "don't have that dead sound." As a result, Cobalts outperform traditional alloy formulations in terms of output, sound, monetary savings, and not having to change strings as often.
